Short Term Work Permit

A Short Term Work Permit is granted to a person whose expertise is urgently needed in the country to work in Fiji for a period of one year or less. Authority is under Section 9(2)(c) of the Immigration Act, 2003.

IMPORTANT:

Employers, organizations, and institutions sponsoring non-citizens to work in Fiji are to ensure that all mandatory requirements for permits applications are submitted, as per the checklists and application forms.

Non-submission of any of the required documents can be grounds to decline or refuse permit applications.
Employment contract which includes all non-negotiable conditions is a mandatory requirement. A standard sample of employment contract in accordance with the Fiji labour laws is available on the Fiji Immigration website.
The employer is responsible for returning foreign workers to their home countries as required in the repatriation clauses of their employment contracts.
Employers must provide evidence that content of the employment contract is understood by the foreign worker and signed by both parties.
A change of employment while in country is not permitted unless approved by the Immigration Department.
Employers must ensure applicant’s passport is valid for the duration of permit.

Application must be filled by the Principal Applicant, Employer and License Agents.
The Department reserves all rights to acquire additional documents for further verification, as and when required;

Important Information

Employment Documents:

Contract of Employment is mandatory
Contractual Agreement of the Employer with Relevant Local Authorities.
Ensure that employment contracts are signed by applicant and employer, with employment period dates.

Payment Remittance:

Ensure payment receipt are uploaded on the jotform payment link with correct narration (FID Reference number). FAILURE TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN THE CANCELLATION OF YOUR APPLICATION.

Drivers Position:

Driving License to be authenticated with Notary Public/ Justice of Peace or Commissioner of Oath
Mandatory Test with LTA before commencement of employment.
Employer to submit test result by email ([email protected]) to Fiji Immigration Department within the first month of employment.

Failure to provide complete application form and documentary requirements will be subject for refusal.

You Must:

Submit passport valid for three years or more;
Submit photographs less than 6 months old, good quality color, full-face view of your head and shoulders and taken against a plain or light colored background;
Submit certified copies of all documents;
Also include your family member (spouse and children under 18 years) on the same form, if applying at the same time;

Important Information:

Short term work permit can only be extended to long term work permit.
Lodged one (1) month prior to the expiry date of the existing permit;
Extension or renewal to another short term work permit is not permitted.

Completed and signed APPLICATION FOR A PERMIT TO WORK Form.
Certified copy of applicant’s bio-data page of passport.
Two (2) certified photographs.
- If accompanied by family members, proof of relationship is required.
  - Marriage Certificate (if legally married).
  - Birth Certificate (for children).
Request letter from the employer, including:
- Company profile/background.
- Position Description.
- Roles of the position.
- Special requirements for the position.
- Detailed justification for the need of the position.
Police Report for the principal applicant (from the country of citizenship).
Medical Report for the principal applicant.
Curriculum Vitae (CV) with certified copies of academic qualifications and references for proof of work experience.
Advertisement: ALL positions must be advertised (recently), except for Government Contract (include certified copy of Contract Agreement).
Contract of Employment (to include employment period, position, and remunerations).
Endorsement from relevant Authorities, including Ministry of Education and Fiji Higher Education Commission.
