Exemption by Descent

Is granted to a direct descendent of a person (principal citizen) who was considered a Citizen of Fiji on the 10th of October, 1970 and holder of a valid foreign passport to enter, reside, study and work in the country. Direct descendants include the principal citizen’s children, grandchildren and great grandchildren .

  • Applicant’s foreign passport must be valid upon lodgment
Instructions
  • This application form must be completed by persons over 18 years of age.
  • All documents must be submitted as per Exemption category document requirements. The Department reserves all rights to acquire additional documents for further verification as and when required.
  • Where a question in a particular section does not apply to you, please put NONE or N/A.
  • Providing false or misleading information in this application may result in the application being refused. It can also lead to imprisonment or a fine, or both.
  • No Lodgment Fee is required for the following categories:
    • Spouse of a Fiji Citizen
    • Child of a Fiji Citizen
    • Registered in the Vola ni Kawa Bula
  • One form should be completed by each applicant.
Documentary Requirements
  • Request Letter from the applicant [to be submitted by the applicant’s parent if the applicant is below 18 years of age]
  • Support Letter from the applicant’s guardian and copy of guardian’s valid national photo ID if the applicant is below 18 years of age and will not be residing with either parent in Fiji
  • Certified copy of the applicant’s passport bio-data page
  • Two [2] recent passport size photographs
  • Certified copy of Birth Certificate
  • Copy of parents’ passport bio-data pages [if applicant is below 18 years of age]
  • Certified copy of Marriage Certificate (if applicable)
  • Copy of Foreign Citizenship Certificate [if applicable]
  • Police Report if applicant is above 18 years of age [from country of citizenship or country of current residence]
  • Medical Report [must be conducted within 3 months prior to the date of lodgment]
  • Proof of funds [e.g. copy of Bank Statement issued in the last 3 months]
  • Support Letter from a Fiji Citizen considered to be a family elder confirming relationship of applicant to the principal citizen and copy of his/her valid national photo ID & Birth Certificate
  • Official documents to prove the past (or present) existence of the principal citizen on whom your ancestry claim is based on e.g. copy of Fiji passport / Fiji Citizenship Certificate, Birth Certificate, Death Certificate, Marriage Certificate etc.
  • Official documents to prove the applicant’s familial relationship to the principal citizen e.g. copies of relevant Birth Certificates, Marriage Certificates, Death Certificates etc.
  • Copy of current permit or exemption [if already residing in the country]
  • Local Police Report Lodgment Receipt if applicant is above 18 years of age [only applicable for extension application]
  • Copy of Employment Contract or Company Registration Form and Letter [only applicable for extension application and if applicant is working or investing in the country]
  • Copy of previous Exemption [only applicable for extension application]
  • Search Fee of $12.30 – for record search conducted to confirm principal citizen’s Fiji Citizenship
How to apply
  • Complete this form in English using CAPITAL LETTERS.
  • Provide your residential address where you intend to live while your application is being processed. Postal addresses will not be accepted as your residential address.
  • If your documents are not in English, arrange for translation by an accredited translator or your respective embassies.
  • Submit completed forms to the nearest Fijian Immigration Office, Fiji Consulate Office, Embassies, or online through the Fijian Immigration website at www.immigration.gov.fj.
  • Retain a copy of your application and all attachments for your own records.
